State of Cyber Security in 2024
Below is a report titled “State of the UAE Cybersecurity” written by: H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti – Head of Cyber Security for the UAE Government.
This report is a wonderful read and equally applies to Australia as much as it does the UAE. In fact, when reading it, just mentally replace UAE with Australia as the facts in this document almost linearly align with Australia.
It covers topics such as:
- 40% of the top vulnerabilities are over five years old.
- Ransomware remaining critical with major global ransomware groups intensifying their focus on the region.
- Data Breach Costs (in USD) – effectively doubling from 2022 to 2023.
- Distributed Denial of Service Attacks persist as a significant threat.
- Attack surfaces – top 10 common vulnerabilities and exposures – CVEs (Oracle Forms & Reports RCE are 53%!)
- Remote access (constitutes 23%) and network vulnerabilities are prime targets for cyber threat actors
- IT and network infrastructure exposures account for 39% of compromises
- Do please take the time to read it if you can – it has fantastic qualitative and quantitative data and is a thoroughly researched paper.
